Report of Inspector Dreusoe and Detective Dobbins

  • Told that Paschal Candle was missing
  • Garbled voice mail (since erased) may have said something about it being 'borrowed'
  • Told that Sexton, Bob, discovered the candle missing
  • Interviewed Sexton. He found a picture near the Baptismal font where the candle usually resides
  • Shared the picture 'clue' with mystery club
  • Mystery club suggested we investigate places suggested in the picture
  • The picture led to another and another and another - those clubbers are fantasic stuff-finders!
  • The pictures all had some text on the backs. Pictures and text below

Conclusions: More research is in order. We need to learn more about this candle and will have to interview Rev. Tom.

We did find some very suspicious worms near the picture clues. What does this mean?? Inspector Druesoe suspects a possible worm conspiracy...

    Transcript of Sexton Interview:

Time and Date of Interview: 9:36am Monday, July 6th
    Location: All Saints’ Church
    Detective (D)
    Witness (W)

D: Please state your name and job
    W: Bob the Sexton
D: And what does a Sexton do?
W: As the Sexton at the church I am responsible for caring for the building and assisting in the set-up and clean-up of the facility for the various groups using the church buildings. In this church, I am well known for my floor work.
    D: Do you mean gymnastics?
W: No, I mean in polishing the floors..
D: OK, back to the case, When were you first aware that the candle was missing?
W: I came in at 5am to clean the church on Monday, and I noticed it missing right away. At first I thought it might have been moved for a service, so I just kept cleaning, but then I realized that it was not in the main church so I mentioned it to Rev. Tom.
D: When you say that you noticed it missing, where was it usually kept? In a locked room?
W: No, it was usually to the left of the lectern, near the flag and the door.
D: You said that you thought it might have been moved- where else have you seen the candle?
W: Well, in some services it is set up next to the baptismal font in the front of the church, and it is also used in funerals and sometimes weddings. So I wasn’t immediately concerned.
D: Had there been a baptism, wedding or funeral that weekend?
W: No, not that I was aware of. That was why I asked Tom about it when I saw him in the narthex. That was when he told me about the weird phone message he got.
D: Did you notice anything out of the ordinary in the church?
W: Yes- I found this strange photo stuck to my mop- I must have picked it up when I was cleaning the floor.

    Interview concluded at 9:58am
Photo mentioned has been added to the potential clue file.
