Mystery Club Final Report
The Case of the Missing Paschal Candle- Solved
SynopsisThe Paschal Candle at All Saints went missing back in June- a mysterious message left on Rev. Tom's answering machine indicated that the candle was being borrowed- but the message was garbled and we did not know who had it or why.
Rev. Tom was contacted by T. Barry Evanington who offered the assistance of some of his professional detectives to help us solve the case. His agency, the E and G Agency Detectives, sent Inspector Druesoe and Detective Cassandra Dobbins. Both detectives were great to work with- they shared many of their investigative techniques and their somewhat unconventional theories about the case.
The details of our investigation are recorded on the E. and G. Agency Detectives website at http://www.spacedoutgame.com/SMC/index.html. They include the transcripts of our interviews with Bob the Sexton, Rev. Tom, Liz Landers, and Maggie Marshall as well as the trail of photo clues our mysterious borrower had left behind. The borrower led us on a clue hunt each Sunday by leaving detailed photos of places in and around All Saints'. Each photo had writing on the back about "light" references in the Book of Common Prayer, The Hymnal and the Bible. There were also coded clues that got increasingly hard to break. All of the photos can also be seen on the website under "Current Case".
We had narrowed our list of suspects down, based on interview responses- and with a secret message from Inspector Druesoe and Detective Dobbins that had been hidden on the website, we suspected it might be an inside job. But we had learned well that you couldn't accuse someone without solid evidence, so last Sunday we worked feverishly to solve the coded message and analyze the final interview with Maggie- and just as we were running out of time- we had him! Steve Grillo was the mysterious borrower of the Paschal Candle! We found the final proof on his photo website where he had a picture of the candle next to the Mystery Club Banner!
We emailed Mr. Grillo to ask him politely if he had the candle, and sure enough he did! But then he challenged us to figure out why he borrowed the candle promised us a surprise if we did- here are our guesses.
